Smart AI forces Indian IT giants like TCS and Infosys to change business models and charge for actual results instead of hours worked.
Big computer technology companies in India are changing how they do business and charge their customers as smart artificial intelligence software becomes faster at doing routine office work.
Famous technology outsourcing firms, including Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, and Cognizant, are moving away from traditional billing methods where clients pay for every hour a tech worker spends on a project.
Instead, international business clients are demanding steep price cuts and insisting that payment be tied directly to finished, measurable business results.
The major shift in global technology contracting was highlighted in comprehensive market reports published in Bengaluru, India, on August 20, 2026.
The change comes as India’s $315 billion technology services industry faces pressure from international corporate clients who want lower bills and faster completion times.
Stock market indicators reflect these challenges, with top tech shares falling in value as investors watch how big firms adapt to automated computer coding and fast digital tools.
The primary reason for this business transformation is that smart artificial intelligence tools can write computer code, handle basic customer support, and organize complex data in a fraction of the time human workers take.
Because clients know these computer tools save time, they are refusing to pay for long work hours and are asking for the same tech services at much lower prices.
Furthermore, many smaller technology companies are using AI tools to deliver projects faster, forcing giant tech providers to cut prices or risk losing long-standing clients.

Explaining how client demands are forcing technology providers to deliver faster work at lower costs, Persistent Systems Chief Executive Officer Sandeep Kalra stated that the IT provider’s clients were “demanding the same work for 25% to 30% less while expecting faster delivery and higher productivity”.
Describing how artificial intelligence is changing basic rules across the entire global software industry, Cognizant management explained in an official company statement that “with AI, the fundamentals are shifting,” adding that “clients now expect more value and measurable outcomes, and we are re forging our model for that reality”.
Pointing out that big technology companies will no longer need thousands of basic office coders because smart tools handle simple technical tasks, former Infosys Chief Financial Officer V. Balakrishnan noted that “the pyramid model is gone,” emphasizing that “with coding agents, we no longer need basic coding”.
By adapting to smart artificial intelligence tools and changing how they bill clients, Indian IT providers are fighting to protect their positions in the global economy.
While charging for finished results rather than human work hours creates initial financial challenges, adopting smart software ensures that tech firms can deliver faster, cheaper, and better digital services to businesses around the world.
