Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA)

Telecommunications businesses and individuals in Liberia will soon be able to apply for licences and renewals online as the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) moves to replace its paper-based system.

The planned digital platform is expected to make it easier for applicants outside Monrovia to complete licensing procedures without travelling to the capital.

Under the new system, applicants will be able to submit telecommunications licence applications and renewal requests through the online platform, reducing the time and cost involved in the current process.

The LTA said that it is part of efforts to make its services faster, more efficient and accessible to people across the country.

The authority’s Licensing and Regulations Department is currently working on the platform and refining the process ahead of its implementation, and staff is also being trained to manage applications and other licensing activities through the digital system.

For telecom operators and other applicants based outside Monrovia, the change could reduce the need for repeated trips to the capital to submit documents or follow up on applications.

Despite the shift towards digital services, the authority said it would not completely remove physical access.

Applicants who require assistance, have limited access to online services or prefer to deal directly with officials will still be able to use physical channels.

The LTA said maintaining both options would help ensure that the digital transition does not leave some applicants behind.

This comes as governments and regulators across Africa increasingly adopt digital platforms to deliver public services and reduce lengthy administrative processes.

The authority said the initiative forms part of its broader effort to modernise telecommunications regulation and improve the delivery of services to applicants across Liberia.
