What is the Ilorin Innovation Hub?
The Ilorin Innovation Hub is a partnership between the Kwara State Government and IHS Towers, which committed over $2 million to the projectIHS Nigeria (a major company that builds phone towers).
• A Giant Space: The hub is over 13,000 square meters. That is big enough for more than 1,000 people to work and create at the same time.
• The Mission: It was built to give young people in Kwara a place to learn digital skills and turn their ideas into real companies.
Meet the “Convergence” Startups
The 19 startups chosen to pitch their ideas have spent months being trained and supported. They are working on solutions for everyday life in Nigeria:
1. Smart Farming: Apps that help farmers grow more food and sell it easily.
2. Health-Tech: Using technology to help doctors and patients connect faster.
3. Green Energy: Finding better ways to provide electricity using the sun.
4. Digital Services: Tools that help small businesses run more smoothly.
Why This Matters for Kwara
By hosting this “Demo Day,” Kwara State is sending a message: you don’t have to move to Lagos to be successful in tech.
• Creating Jobs: The government and IHS target creating 10,000 jobs through this hub.
• Attracting Money: Bringing in international investors means more money flowing into the local economy.
• Supporting Youth: It gives young Nigerians in the North Central region a fair chance to compete with anyone in the world.
A Bright Future
Kwara’s Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, wants to make the state a “tech destination.” With the support of experts like Co-creation Hub (CcHub) and Future Africa, the Ilorin Innovation Hub is proving that talent is everywhere.
As these 19 startups continue to grow, they aren’t just building apps they are building a new future for Kwara and Nigeria.
