MTN Nigeria has become the first telecommunications company in Nigeria to obtain the ISO 28000:2022 certification for its Supply Chain Security Management System.
The certification, according to the company, recognises its systems for managing security risks within its supply chain and improving operational resilience.
ISO 28000:2022 provides a structured framework for identifying, assessing and mitigating security risks that could affect the movement of goods, services, information and other resources within a supply chain.
For organisations operating complex networks, supply chain security can cover a wide range of activities, including the movement of equipment, management of suppliers and contractors, protection of information and the continuity of critical operations.

MTN Nigeria said its attainment of the certification reflects its efforts to strengthen security and risk management across its operations while aligning its processes with internationally recognised practices.
The telecommunications company said the certification would further support its ability to protect its people, assets, information and operations from potential security and operational risks.
It added that the standard would also complement its efforts to maintain business continuity and ensure secure and efficient service delivery to customers and other stakeholders.
According to the company, strengthening its supply chain security framework is part of its wider approach to managing operational risks and improving resilience across the organisation.
The certification comes as telecommunications operators continue to rely on extensive networks of suppliers, contractors, technology providers and other partners to maintain infrastructure and deliver services.
MTN Nigeria said having a formal supply chain security management system would provide an additional framework for identifying potential vulnerabilities and taking appropriate measures to address them.
The company described the certification as an important step in its efforts to strengthen its operational systems and build a more resilient organisation.
The ISO 28000 standard is applicable to organisations of different sizes and sectors and focuses on establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a security management system.
MTN Nigeria said its certification would reinforce its broader strategy around security, governance, risk management and business continuity.
The company added that the achievement would help support its objective of maintaining secure operations while continuing to provide reliable services to its customers.
