Moniepoint Inc has appointed Rose Muturi, former Branch Kenya CEO, as the chief executive for Kenya.
Nigerian fintech unicorn Moniepoint Inc. has appointed Rose Muturi, the former Chief Executive of Branch Kenya, as its new CEO for Kenya. The high-profile hiring marks a major milestone in the firm’s East African expansion strategy, which gained serious momentum earlier in the year following its acquisition of a 78% stake in Sumac Microfinance Bank.
In a statement confirming the transition, Moniepoint clarified that Muturi is employed directly by the parent group to steer the brand’s overall nationwide strategy rather than to serve as a direct, standalone manager for the newly acquired Sumac subsidiary, which will continue operating under its own leadership team.
The hiring represents an incredibly precise matching of executive talent to corporate strategy. Muturi spent over four years at Branch International, guiding the digital lender’s transition into a fully regulated neobank.
At Branch, Muturi led the acquisition of Century Microfinance Bank, using its deposit-taking license to expand the startup’s footprint beyond basic digital lending into a wider suite of core banking services.
Moniepoint is executing the exact same playbook in Kenya. While the acquisition of Sumac Microfinance Bank provided the essential regulatory infrastructure and license to collect deposits and issue loans, scaling a sustainable banking ecosystem in a highly competitive market requires deep, localized execution capability.
Beyond her time at Branch, Muturi brings more than 15 years of seasoned financial experience. She has held senior leadership roles at credit-led fintechs and traditional banks including Tala, HF Group, TransUnion Kenya, Chase Bank and Standard Chartered
and co-founded the Digital Lenders Association of Kenya (DLAK).

In Nigeria, Moniepoint built its multi-billion-dollar valuation by bundling merchant payments, digital banking, credit, and back-office business tools into a singular, highly cohesive operating platform for small businesses.
Signs suggest the company is preparing to launch a similar, unified business banking platform in Nairobi. The group is actively recruiting heavily in Kenya across critical operational nodes including product control, financial planning, accounting and human resources. Additionally, its recent acquisition of restaurant management software provider Orda indicates that Moniepoint plans to tightly couple SaaS enterprise software with financial services to win over Kenyan merchants.
