The Next Big Wave: 56 New Startups Join the SIA Foundry 3.0

The tech world in Africa is buzzing. While famous names like Flutterwave continue to grow, a new group of entrepreneurs is stepping into the spotlight. Recently, 56 startups from Nigeria, Ghana, and Ethiopia were selected for the SIA Startup Foundry 3.0, a program designed to help small businesses become the giants of tomorrow.

What is the SIA Startup Foundry?

The SIA (Sola & Ibukun Adeyinka) Foundation created this “foundry” to act like a school for startups. Instead of just giving out money, they provide training, mentorship, and a clear path to success. This year’s group is special because it brings together ideas from three different African countries.

Who are these new startups?

The 56 companies chosen for this year are young, hungry, and very digital. Here is a quick look at who they are:

• The New Kids: About 70% of these businesses were started in just the last two years.

• Tech-Ready: Nearly all of them (98%) already use websites or apps to run their business.

• More Women Leaders: Roughly 30% of the startups are led by women, showing that the tech space is becoming more inclusive.

The “Intelligence Shift”: Focus on AI and Education

In the past, many programs focused on “green energy” or solar power. But this year, there is a big change. Many of these startups are focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Education (EdTech).

Instead of just general apps, they are building tools for:

1. Smarter Farming: Using AI to help farmers grow more food.

2. Better Schools: Creating digital systems to track how students are learning.

3. Healthier Lives: Using technology to help doctors find illnesses faster.

The Road to the Top

Joining the program is just the beginning. It is a friendly but tough competition:

• The Bootcamp: For one month, all 56 startups will go through intense training to fix their business plans.

• The Final Ten: After the training, only the 10 best startups will move to the final stage.

• The Prize: On “Demo Day,” the finalists will show their ideas to experts. The top 6 winners will receive money (up to $10,000) and long-term help to grow their business.

Why This Matters

Nigeria’s startup scene is changing. Even though it can be hard to find investors right now, programs like the SIA Foundry show that there is no shortage of great ideas. By supporting early-stage startups from Nigeria, Ghana, and Ethiopia, the ecosystem is building a foundation that doesn’t just rely on one or two big names, but on hundreds of new, smart businesses.
