Solution in Motion: Anambra State and Flutterwave Partner to Digitise the “Light of the Nation”

In a major move to formalize and scale the South East’s commercial power, the Anambra State Government officially announced a strategic partnership with Africa’s leading payments technology company, Flutterwave, on April 22, 2026.

The collaboration, spearheaded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, is designed to transform Anambra into a digital commerce powerhouse by integrating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into the global digital economy.

This partnership follows Flutterwave’s recent announcement to establish Anambra as its primary operational hub for South-East Nigeria. Leveraging its newly secured Microfinance Banking License from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Flutterwave intends to deploy deep-tier financial infrastructure across the state’s most iconic commercial clusters.

Key focus areas include:

• The Onitsha Main Market & Nnewi Artisans: Targeted digitisation of payment systems for traders and manufacturers to enable safe, seamless transactions beyond physical borders.

• Awka’s Tech Talent: Creating a pipeline for young entrepreneurs in the state capital to build and scale global platforms directly from Anambra.

• Infrastructure & POS Deployment: A massive rollout of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals and digital storefronts to formalise “street-level” commerce.

Governor Soludo described the initiative as a “strategic move to formalize and grow the emerging e-commerce ecosystem.” Unlike previous digital interventions, this partnership focuses on a holistic integration of the business value chain:

1. Digitised Payments: Reducing the reliance on cash in high-volume markets like Onitsha to improve security and transparency.

2. Logistics Integration: Linking Flutterwave’s payment rails with logistics providers to ensure that a product sold online in Nnewi can be tracked and delivered efficiently across Nigeria.

3. Impact & Financing: Through Flutterwave’s new banking capabilities, the partnership will launch a large-scale impact program offering access to loans and credit for SMEs—a move Agboola says is aimed at “creating more millionaires from this city.”

The choice of Anambra is no coincidence. As one of Nigeria’s most vibrant commercial engines, the state provides a perfect testing ground for high-volume digital adoption.

“Flutterwave has demonstrated how homegrown technology can solve real African challenges at scale,” Governor Soludo stated. “This collaboration is about empowering our people to transact, grow, and compete beyond borders.”

As Flutterwave moves toward group-wide profitability in 2026, its “Anambra Hub” serves as a blueprint for decentralizing innovation in Nigeria. By moving beyond Lagos, the fintech giant is betting on the untapped potential of the South East’s MSMEs to drive the next wave of Africa’s digital growth.

For the traders in Onitsha and the inventors in Nnewi, the message is clear: the “Solution” is no longer just a political slogan—it’s now a digital reality.
