President Tinubu’s NIN Order Will Make Identity Checking Stronger Across Nigeria, Says NIMC Boss

Checking identities in Nigeria is about to become much easier and more secure. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s special order about the National Identification Number (NIN) will completely change how government and private businesses confirm who you are.

Checking identities in Nigeria is about to become much easier and more secure. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s special order about the National Identification Number (NIN) will completely change how government and private businesses confirm who you are.

The head of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that this new direction will create a unified computer system where every citizen’s information can be trusted instantly.

What is the President’s New Directive?

President Tinubu gave a strict order that requires all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to use the NIN for everything they do.

Whenever a government office needs to collect your data, check your identity, or scan your fingerprints, they must use the official NIN database. This means different government offices will no longer need to collect your information over and over again from scratch.

Why This Matters for Everyday Nigerians

The shift away from separate, unorganized filing systems brings several important benefits to everyday citizens:

• One Number for Everything: Your NIN will now be the main key to opening doors for both government services and private business platforms, such as banks and phone companies.

• Less Paperwork: You will not have to fill out the same identity papers repeatedly at different government offices because they will all share one secure system.

• Stopping Double Names: The unified system will stop people from creating fake profiles or using multiple names to commit fraud.

Keeping Your Data Safe Online

As more services move online, people naturally worry about hackers or stolen information. NIMC says it is putting strong security walls in place to protect the private details of all Nigerians.

The commission has launched a security framework called the National Public Key Infrastructure (nPKI). Think of it as a highly advanced digital lock that makes sure electronic transactions and communications stay safe from scammers while keeping your personal information private.

The government also introduced a mobile phone application called the NINAuth App. This app allows both small businesses and government offices to quickly check your identity on a smartphone without seeing your private data safely.

The boss of NIMC stated that a reliable identity system is the foundation for a successful country. With a working NIN system, the government can plan better roads, distribute welfare funds directly to poor families without middle-men taking a cut, and improve national security.

NIMC is urging all businesses and public offices to quickly update their computer systems so they can connect directly to the national database and help build a safer, faster Nigeria.
