Polaris Bank has expressed sorrow following the death of one of its branch managers, identified as Mr. Ossy who was shot by armed attackers within the premises of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Imo State.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the bank manager drove to the university campus to drop off his children, who are students at the institution. Armed assailants confronted the manager during the visit. While his children managed to flee to safety, the manager was fatally shot by the fleeing gunmen. Two female students were also abducted from the campus during the same security breach.
In an official statement issued by Head of Brand Management and Corporate Communication Rasheed Bolarinwa, Polaris Bank extended condolences to the manager’s family, friends, and colleagues. The financial institution stated that law enforcement agencies have launched an active investigation into the attack and appealed for patience while authorities establish the full circumstances surrounding the event.
FUTO management also confirmed the security breach through Registrar Chinonso Uba. The university administration assured staff, students and parents that safety protocols are being strengthened, adding that management is coordinating with security agencies to secure the safe release of the two abducted students.

Following the attack, university officials met with Imo State Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso to review security protocols around the campus. The police chief pledged to deploy additional personnel and step up patrols across the university grounds and adjacent host communities including Ihiagwa, Eziobodo, Obinze and Nekede.
Meanwhile, university authorities reaffirmed an existing policy restricting rowdy campus gatherings to preserve public order and prevent further security risks. Security agencies have maintained heightened surveillance around the institution while investigations continue.
