Nigerian professor, engineer and inventor Ndubuisi Ekekwe has unveiled the Contisx Phone, a blockchain-powered smartphone designed to combine secure communication with digital and capital market services.
The device, launched as part of Ekekwe’s work with Contisx, is designed to provide encrypted messaging, voice and video communication while connecting users to the company’s wider digital ecosystem.
According to Contisx, the phone uses cryptographic technology to protect communications against eavesdropping and tampering, targeting individuals, businesses and government users seeking more secure digital communication.
The smartphone is positioned as more than a conventional mobile device, with financial and business services integrated into its ecosystem.
Contisx said the phone will provide access to services including Contisx Mail, Contisx Audio and Contisx Video. The company also announced zero-rated data access for its exchange and central securities depository services.
Ekekwe, who has a background in semiconductor engineering, said the project represents an extension of his work in technology, moving from chip and sensor development into blockchain infrastructure and digital financial services.
In a statement shared on social media, Ekekwe recalled his earlier work in semiconductor engineering, including his time at Analog Devices, where he said he contributed to the development of inertial sensor technology used in early iPhone models.
Contisx said the phone will also feature proprietary near-field communication technology, multilingual support and business tools. Languages listed for the device include Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Nigerian Pidgin and English.
The company is positioning the smartphone within its broader financial technology ecosystem, which includes services for capital market activities such as listings, trading and portfolio management.

Contisx said its platform is licensed and regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria.
Customers who pre-order the device are expected to receive one year of complimentary Contisx Network services, alongside other benefits including access to the Tekedia Nigeria Capital Market Masterclass and Tekedia Mini-MBA.
Pre-orders are currently open, with shipments scheduled to begin on October 1, 2026.
The launch adds blockchain-based communication to Ekekwe’s technology portfolio and reflects a growing push by African technology companies to combine mobile devices with financial and digital services.
