NADF Partners German Fintech for fund climate-smart farming

The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) has partnered with a leading German fintech company to launch a joint financing initiative targeting climate-smart agriculture across Nigeria.

Nigeria’s National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) has entered into a strategic partnership with German climate fintech company YAPU Solutions GmbH to expand climate-resilient funding for smallholder farmers across the country.

The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by NADF Executive Secretary Mohammed Ibrahim and YAPU Solutions CEO and Founder Christoph Jungfleisch, aims to combine financial resources with climate data to protect agricultural loans against unpredictable weather patterns.

The collaboration focuses on creating specialized framework mechanisms that assess climate risks before and during the lending cycle.

Under the agreement, YAPU Solutions will supply technical expertise, digital tools, climate-risk analytics, and data infrastructure, while NADF will facilitate operational engagement and integrate these insights directly into its financing portfolio.

By analyzing localized environmental data, the initiative will allow financial institutions to design and improve specialized loan products that cushion smallholder farmers against production losses caused by extreme weather events like floods and droughts.

Beyond data analytics, the partnership includes dedicated capacity-building programs, new operational frameworks and initial pilot projects to test climate-smart loan models in real-world agricultural communities.

NADF leadership noted that embedding climate risk assessments into national agricultural financing will build long-term resilience for local farmers, ensure predictable food production and create safer lending environments for financial partners supporting Nigeria’s primary agricultural sector.
