Apple has released a new software update for the iPhone, called iOS 26.5.
While this is not a massive update that completely changes how your phone works, it brings some very helpful new features, better security, and a beautiful new look for your screen.
1. Safer Texting with Android Friends
If you text people who use Android phones, you might know about RCS (Rich Communication Services), which makes texting feel more like using WhatsApp or iMessage. With iOS 26.5, Apple has added end-to-end encryption for these messages. This means your chats with Android users are now private and highly secure from hackers.
2. A Colorful New Wallpaper
To celebrate Pride month, Apple has included a new “Pride Luminance” wallpaper for your Lock Screen. It looks beautiful and is highly customizable—you can choose from 12 different color options. Even cooler, the colors shift slightly and react when you move your phone.
3. “Suggested Places” in Apple Maps
When you open Apple Maps, you will see a new section called Suggested Places. This helps you discover popular restaurants, stores, and fun spots nearby based on your recent searches and what is trending.
• Note: Businesses can now pay to be featured here, meaning you will see some ads. However, Apple promises that your personal data stays completely private and advertisers won’t track you.
4. Easier Tool Pairing
If you use Apple computer accessories with your iPhone or iPad like the Magic Mouse or Magic Keyboard connecting them is now much easier. You can simply plug them into your device using a USB-C cable, and they will pair automatically without you needing to fiddle with the Bluetooth settings.
