OPay Digital Services has dismissed a viral social media notice claiming that the platform plans to suspend operations and go on an indefinite break starting September 1, 2026.
Popular digital financial company OPay has told the public to ignore viral messages claiming that it will shut down operations starting Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
The company described the reports as completely false, misleading and malicious, reassuring users that their money is safe and its services will continue without interruption.
The clarification came after a fake notice went viral on social media over the weekend. The misleading message claimed that OPay was going on a long, indefinite break and advised customers to quickly move their money out of the app to avoid losing access.
Panicked by the message, several customers rushed to withdraw their funds before OPay stepped in to address the situation.
In a statement posted across its official social media channels, OPay made it clear that it has no plans to pause operations or close down.
“OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here and we’re going nowhere!” the company stated.

OPay urged the public and social media users to always check its verified pages for genuine news and to stop sharing unverified rumors online.
