Vietnam asks tech giants Qualcomm and Samsung to invest more money in artificial intelligence, computer chips, and research hubs.

The government of Vietnam has officially asked major global technology companies Qualcomm and Samsung to bring more money, advanced computer chip projects, and artificial intelligence research into the country.

Top national leaders met directly with the heads of both giant firms to discuss building big software centers, creating smart factory jobs, and training local workers.

By bringing high tech computer work to its cities, the nation aims to shift from simply assembling basic electronics to becoming a major world center for inventing future technology, building super fast 5G networks, and creating smart computer chips.

The high-level technology meetings took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, with official government updates released publicly on Friday, August 28, 2026.

During separate official gatherings in the capital city, Communist Party General Secretary and President To Lam met with Qualcomm Chief Executive Officer Cristiano Amon.

At the same time, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung held direct talks with Samsung Electronics Chief Executive Officer Roh Tae moon.

The main reason Vietnam is making this big push is that its leaders want to upgrade the country’s business economy.

For many years, foreign companies used local factories mostly for cheap manual labor to assemble mobile phones, household appliances, and television parts.

However, government leaders want to move away from low paying assembly work and focus on high paying technology fields like artificial intelligence, microchip design, robotics, and next generation internet.

Partnering closely with established global tech giants allows local companies to learn advanced skills, join international supply chains, and build lasting wealth for the nation.

Explaining how the nation plans to rebuild its economy around modern computer technology and artificial intelligence, Communist Party General Secretary and President To Lam stated that Vietnam was “shifting toward a growth model driven by science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and artificial intelligence”.

Sharing Qualcomm’s strong excitement to build major research centers inside the country to design next generation technology, Qualcomm Chief Executive Officer Cristiano Amon stated that Qualcomm wanted to “develop its presence in Vietnam into the company’s third-largest artificial intelligence research and development hub globally”.

Highlighting why keeping Samsung as a primary technology partner is vital for national growth, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung stated that Vietnam wanted Samsung to “remain a key partner in strengthening the country’s technological capabilities, developing its industrial base and integrating more deeply into global value chains”.

Confirming that Samsung plans to keep investing money to help local businesses learn advanced computer manufacturing skills, Samsung Electronics Chief Executive Officer Roh Tae moon stated that Samsung planned “more investment and training in Vietnam, and was working with the government to enable local firms to participate more deeply in its global supply chain”.

By encouraging companies like Qualcomm and Samsung to expand their local operations, Vietnam is taking bold steps toward a high tech future.
