TCL has sued Samsung Electronics in a U.S. federal court, accusing the South Korean company of falsely advertising some of its televisions as using Mini LED technology.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in federal court in Los Angeles, alleges that Samsung marketed its M Model televisions as featuring Mini LED technology even though, according to TCL, the sets do not contain the technology or its associated technical improvements.
TCL said Samsung launched the M Model televisions in March at prices below its cheapest Mini LED sets and promoted them as Mini LED products.
The company alleged that the televisions were instead based on Samsung’s standard LED models and did not include the technological advances associated with Mini LED displays.
“Samsung’s false advertising misled consumers who wanted the higher picture quality associated with Mini LED televisions into buying Samsung’s falsely labeled product,” TCL attorney R.C. Harlan said in a statement.
TCL said Mini LED technology provides improved picture quality, including greater dynamic range and higher contrast ratios.
The Chinese company also claimed that it overtook Samsung in U.S. Mini LED television sales between 2023 and 2025, arguing that Samsung had failed to develop Mini LED televisions at competitive prices.

In its complaint, TCL accused Samsung of using a standard television model from an existing product line and marketing it as a higher-end Mini LED television at a lower price.
Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment by newsmen on Tuesday.
TCL is seeking a court order preventing Samsung from advertising the disputed televisions as using Mini LED technology, as well as an unspecified amount in monetary damages.
The case adds to competition between the two companies in the U.S. television market, where demand for higher-quality display technologies has increased as manufacturers promote Mini LED and other advanced screen technologies.
