The Federal Government launched the C.L.I.C.K.D programme via CREDICORP, offering structured credit for laptops and smartphones to Nigerians.

To bridge Nigeria’s digital divide and empower working professionals with essential technology, the Federal Government of Nigeria officially launched the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D) initiative. The national consumer credit scheme provides structured, affordable financing for smartphones, laptops, tablets, and connectivity equipment. Rather than forcing citizens to pay steep upfront retail costs, C.L.I.C.K.D allows eligible applicants to acquire productivity tools through manageable, spread-out monthly repayments. Implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the rollout prioritizes locally assembled hardware to boost domestic manufacturing while expanding digital participation. To deliver the initiative at scale, CREDICORP is collaborating with Participating Financial Institutions such as E-Finance Company, supported by Credlock’s intelligent device-collateral technology to ensure seamless, secure credit underwriting.

The operational framework detailing how citizens can access the scheme centers on a unified digital portal at credicorp.ng/clickd. Applicants across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) can submit their application online, selecting their employment category, ranging from salary earners and freelancers to students, job seekers, and NYSC members. Beneficiaries can specify their required device and outline their intended primary use, such as remote work, software development, content creation, or digital skills certifications. While the digital portal serves nationwide applicants, initial physical distribution events kicked off in Abuja before expanding systematically across participating financial institutions and vendor networks in all geopolitical zones.

Regarding this initiative, the official nationwide launch took place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, alongside CREDICORP Managing Director and CEO Uzoma Nwagba. The launch marks a major expansion following a successful pilot phase that supplied smartphones to over 1,000 Nigerians. Under this newly scaled phase, CREDICORP aims to immediately reach over 15,000 working Nigerians and technical trainees, starting with an allocation of 1,000 locally assembled laptops reserved for fellows in the government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.

The strategy behind C.L.I.C.K.D addresses a fundamental barrier in Nigeria’s emerging tech ecosystem: high hardware costs severely limit economic mobility. In a modern global economy, laptops and smartphones are no longer luxury items but critical instruments for earning, learning, and business expansion. As Minister Tijani noted during the unveiling, expanding access to productive assets is vital to driving President Bola Tinubu’s vision of a $1 trillion economy. By removing financial hurdles through responsible credit, C.L.I.C.K.D enables talent to convert newly acquired digital skills into remote jobs, local entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.
