The MTN Fintech Summit convened key financial regulators, telecommunication executives and industry leaders to address emerging regulatory frameworks within the digital finance sector.
African regulators, policymakers and tech executives gathered at the Regulatory and Policy Day of the MTN Group Fintech Summit 2026 to push for closer collaboration in building safe, sustainable and inclusive digital financial systems across the continent.
Held under the theme “Maximum Velocity As One,” the summit talks about how government regulation should not act as a roadblock to growth but rather as a necessary foundation for building consumer trust and expanding digital finance.
Zambia featured prominently during the panel discussions with Bank of Zambia Chief Operations Officer Isaac Muhanga speaking on a panel dedicated to building sustainable digital credit systems.
The discussion highlighted how instant loans and digital lending can expand financial inclusion for underserved populations. However, experts stressed that short-term credit services must balance growth with responsible lending practices to protect consumers and maintain long-term financial health.

Data security and emerging technology were also central to the policy conversations. Zambia Data Protection Commissioner Likando Luywa joined an executive dialogue on trusted data governance, artificial intelligence and cross-border information sharing.
Panelists explored how African nations can implement clear regulatory frameworks for artificial intelligence while protecting individual privacy rights. The session underscored the need for standardized rules to manage cross-border data flows safely as financial technology companies expand their operations across multiple African markets.
