Meta reveals the Muse Charm, a palm sized 5G gadget built to let users talk to its smart Muse AI assistant anywhere.
Meta has officially unveiled a novel palm-sized electronic gadget called the Muse Charm, designed to give everyday users continuous, direct access to its popular Muse AI assistant without relying on smartphone apps.
The small pocket-sized device looks similar to a 1990s Tamagotchi digital pet or an earbud case, featuring a two-inch touch screen that can be navigated using a single thumb.
By building a dedicated hardware unit with its own wireless connection, Meta aims to create a dedicated digital companion that lets regular consumers talk to smart computer software, manage daily tasks, and run interactive tools on the go.
The surprise hardware announcement was delivered on stage by Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg during the company’s annual Meta Connect technology conference in Menlo Park, California, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
Developed in secret over nine months by a special design team alongside the Muse software division, the device features a translucent plastic casing that lets owners see the internal circuit boards.
Meta confirmed that the small gadget includes an onboard 5G wireless modem, built-in microphones, speakers, front and back cameras, and a fingerprint scanner, with official retail shipments set to start before the holiday season in December.
The primary reason Meta is building a standalone AI device right now is that tech companies want to create direct relationships with everyday users beyond Apple and Google smartphone operating systems.
While mobile phones require people to unlock their screens, open specific apps, and navigate confusing menus, the Muse Charm provides an instant, always available digital helper that users can carry on a keychain, clip to a bag, or hold in their hand.
Equipping the device with built-in cameras and continuous internet connectivity allows the software to see surroundings, analyze photos, and perform real world tasks automatically.
Explaining how the company designed a unique, pocket-sized companion that stands out from standard mobile phones, Meta Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth stated in an interview that “it’s cool, it’s fun, it’s neat, it’s weird, it’s different,” adding that “there’s nothing like it” and describing the hardware as an exploratory first version product.
Detailing how the compact hardware compresses a full artificial intelligence system into a small physical package, Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg shared during the event presentation that “we pack the whole Muse experience, including the whole real-time voice and avatar stack, into something that fits on a keychain and is always available to talk to”.
Highlighting how young consumers might adopt pocket-sized technology tools as fashionable tech accessories, Smart Analytics Global market research founder Linda Sui observed in an analysis note that “Muse Charm could find some traction among Gen Z and younger consumers,” noting that combining artificial intelligence with personal customization appeals to early tech adopters.
By launching the Muse Charm gadget, Meta is taking an exciting step into post-smartphone hardware innovation. Providing everyday consumers with small, accessible computer helpers ensures that people can use modern artificial intelligence tools effortlessly in their daily lives.
