The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has committed €269.5 million to fund major infrastructure, energy and economic development projects across Guinea.

The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has signed three major loan agreements totaling €269.5 million with the Government of the Republic of Guinea to fund critical infrastructure and social development projects across the country.

The agreements were formally signed in Conakry by Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EBID and Hon. Mariama Ciré Sylla, Guinea’s Minister of Economy, Finance, and Budget. The landmark deal was witnessed by Hon. Ismaël Nabé, Minister of Planning, Development and International Cooperation who also serves as Chairman of the EBID Board of Governors.

Announced during an official bilateral summit, the investment package targets key growth drivers including rural electrification, road transport network expansion, agricultural value chains, and micro-enterprise access to capital.

The €269.5 million financial package allocates targeted funding across three essential development sectors.

The largest share of the funding, totaling €143.05 million, is earmarked for transport infrastructure. This capital will cover the construction and paving of 84 kilometers of road stretching across the Cissela–Banko–N’Dèma and Banko–Saraya corridors.

Upgrading these routes will connect key agricultural and commercial centers in Upper Guinea to National Road No. 1, opening up trade arteries between Conakry, regional hubs and neighboring international trade corridors.

For healthcare, the bank committed €65.8 million toward the construction of  the 200-bed Siguiri Regional Hospital. Once completed, the modern facility is expected to extend specialized medical services to more than 1.7 million residents across the region.

The remaining €60.6 million is directed toward the energy sector to finance the Tinkisso 2 Hydropower Project. With a planned capacity of 11 megawatts, the renewable energy project aims to expand clean electricity access to more than 350,000 citizens.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Donkor emphasized that the investments align with EBID’s broader Growth, Resilience and Optimization (GRO) Strategy for 2026–2030, designed to foster sustainable economic growth, build social resilience, and improve living conditions throughout West Africa.

Guinean government representatives welcomed the commitment, noting that the funding directly supports the country’s economic transformation agenda and the overarching Simandou 2040 Vision.

By bridging infrastructure gaps and improving essential services, the projects are structured to stimulate job creation, enhance national competitiveness, and build a foundation for long-term economic stability.
