For years, the public viewed humanoid robots as harmless entertainment machines that perform flips, run races, or dance on stage to entertain crowds.
However, a detailed investigation of Chinese military purchasing notices, university research papers, and defense company records reveals that the Chinese military is actively testing these human like machines for combat roles.
Military researchers are buying hardware, building special training datasets, and developing remote control systems so these robots can eventually perform guard duty, clear indoor buildings, and carry out dangerous soldier tasks.

Releasing findings after analyzing over one hundred official military procurement files, researchers noted that testing gained massive momentum between 2025 and 2026.
Defense institutes like the National University of Defense Technology and state-owned military companies like Norinco have stepped up their work.
Norinco recently unveiled its “Fuxi” humanoid robot, which is built to handle all-weather guard duties, patrol dangerous areas, and operate remotely under human control.
The main reason China is pushing humanoid robots toward military use now is to protect human soldiers from extreme physical dangers on the battlefield.

Explaining why sending robots into dangerous combat situations is the primary driving force behind modern military robotics, mechanical engineering professor at UCLA Dennis Hong said that “going where we don’t want humans to go is one of the most compelling reasons to develop robots in the first place”.
Emphasizing that saving human lives justifies using machine soldiers in heavy battle zones, Dennis Hong added that “if losing a robot means avoiding the loss of a human life, then the robot can become expendable”.
Acknowledging that technical hurdles remain before robots can take over full combat duties on unpredictable battlefields, researcher at China’s Academy of Military Sciences Wang Yonghua wrote that if movement and software perception problems are solved, “humanoid robots will stream onto the battlefield”.
By preparing humanoid robots for wartime missions, China is taking big steps toward changing how future conflicts are fought.
