Airbus Wins Massive 25-Year Cybersecurity Contract to Protect French Armed Forces

European aerospace giant Airbus has secured a major twenty-five-year defense contract from the French government to design, build, and maintain special digital security gateways for the nation’s military networks.

In modern warfare, soldiers, pilots, and naval captains rely heavily on digital computers to share messages, view radar maps, and coordinate tactical missions.

However, connecting top secret military command centers to regular communication networks creates severe risks that foreign hackers or enemy spies could steal private military secrets.

Under this quarter century agreement, named the PARACOM project, Airbus will supply specialized hardware devices that act as intelligent digital guards, filtering every piece of data moving between secret and unclassified military systems.

The landmark national defense agreement was officially announced by the French General Directorate for Armament and Airbus corporate leadership on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Operating through its dedicated security division, Airbus Cybersecurity SAS, the company won the long-term deal following an intense competitive bidding process.

Under the agreement, Airbus will build custom security units that will be deployed everywhere, from massive army land bases and command centers to battlefront vehicles, combat jets, naval warships, nuclear submarines, and uncrewed military drones.

The primary reason the French Ministry of the Armed Forces is awarding a 25 year contract right now is that digital cyber threats against national defense networks are growing rapidly.

Military operations depend on fast information sharing, but sending secret battle plans across open network lines without heavy filtering could allow dangerous viruses or unauthorized intruders to breach army defenses.

By committing to a long term contract with Airbus, military commanders ensure that defense networks receive continuous technological updates, reliable maintenance, and certified protection against evolving cyber attacks for decades to come.

Highlighting how these new digital tools keep national defense forces safe during active missions, Airbus Defence and Space Director of Connected Intelligence François Lombard stated that “this gateway strengthens the digital shield the French Armed Forces rely on to execute their missions”.

Emphasizing the company’s long track record of protecting army communications across Europe, François Lombard added that “since 2013, we have supplied French land forces with gateway solutions,” noting that specialized technical experience reinforces their position as a trusted national security provider.

Explaining why military leaders need versatile hardware boxes that work in tough physical environments, defense technology analysts observing the agreement noted that “the gateways are designed for use both at static ministry sites and in tactical environments, including submarines, aircraft, and armored vehicles”.

By locking in a quarter century security agreement with Airbus, the French military is building a strong digital shield for its armed forces.
