President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a historic move by appointing Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (Retired) as his Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
This is a brand-new role in the Nigerian government. It was created to help different security agencies work together more closely to keep the country safe.
Who is Major General Adeyinka Famadewa?
Major General Famadewa is a highly respected expert in military intelligence. He has spent over 30 years serving in the Nigerian Army and has a deep understanding of how to stop security threats.
4 Important Things to Know About Him:
• Intelligence Expert: He is famous for helping set up the Intelligence Fusion Centre. This is a special hub where the Police, DSS, and Military share information to catch criminals faster.
• Long Career: Before retiring, he served in many top roles, including working closely with the National Security Adviser (NSA) for six years.
• Well-Educated: He studied at the Nigerian Defence Academy and even took special security courses at Harvard University in the United States.
• Writer and Researcher: He has written books and papers on how to improve policing and security in Nigeria.
Why Was This New Role Created?
In the past, security agencies sometimes worked alone. President Tinubu created the “Homeland Security” office to change that.
The goal of this new office is to:
1. Coordinate: Make sure the Army, Police, and Intelligence services are all on the same page.
2. Use Technology: Use modern tools and data to predict and stop attacks before they happen.
3. Protect the People: Focus on “internal security”which means keeping citizens safe within our borders from threats like kidnapping and terrorism.
What Happens Next?
The President has asked Major General Famadewa to use his years of experience to bring “Renewed Hope” to Nigerians through better safety. By bringing all security groups under one coordinated plan, the government hopes to make Nigeria much more secure for everyone.
